Paxon Ruffin became the youngest player to debut for Rayados’ first team. The Mexican-American played his first minutes against Pachuca on Sunday, 18 October, during Matchday 12 of the Apertura 2026, at 16 years, eight months and 21 days old—a new milestone in the history of Monterrey’s youth academy.
Matías Almeyda brought him on in the 77th minute of the match at Estadio BBVA. Ruffin replaced Jesús “Tecatito” Corona to make his Liga BBVA MX debut in front of Monterrey fans. His appearance set the record from the moment he stepped onto the field, regardless of what he might contribute to the game afterward.
The previous record belonged to Misael Domínguez, whose Rayados debut came in the Concacaf Champions League against Don Bosco. That difference in competitions matters: the record Ruffin now holds is for debuts with the club, not just first appearances in the Mexican league.
Ruffin has reached the top division from the Albiazul youth ranks. He plays as an attacking midfielder and can also play on the wings. His debut opens a new chapter in his development: he has now made his first appearance with the first team under Almeyda and, in doing so, set a historic benchmark for Monterrey’s next academy graduates.
