Jalen Hurts was sidelined indefinitely after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary embolism. The Philadelphia Eagles and his representative, Nicole Lynn, announced the health issue, leaving the team without its starting quarterback while he receives treatment.
The diagnosis came after further medical evaluations. A superficial blood clot in his calf had initially been identified while the team was in London. Later tests confirmed deep vein thrombosis and the presence of clots in both lungs.
Hurts had already been placed on injured reserve and did not play in the Week 6 game. The medical update changes the extent of his absence: his availability now depends on treatment for the blood clots, not just the issue that had been reported in his calf.
Treatment will determine his return
Treatment includes blood thinners. While taking these medications, the quarterback will not be able to participate in football-related activities. That restriction is central to his eventual return to practice and competition.
The player’s representative shared a favorable recovery outlook, and the team also expressed optimism. This does not amount to clearance to play: for now, he remains sidelined with no set return date, and his return will depend on his progress and treatment.
