A rollover in Michoacán left Paul Aguilar, former América and Mexico national team defender, hospitalized. The current sports commentator is receiving care in La Piedad and remains stable under medical observation.
Aguilar was driving a pickup truck on the highway between Yurécuaro and Vista Hermosa when the accident occurred, at around 23:00 on Saturday. The crash took place near kilometer 16, and the vehicle ended up overturned near the railroad tracks.
The rescue required the intervention of Civil Protection personnel, who carried out maneuvers to get the former soccer player out of the pickup. Once out of the vehicle, he was taken to a hospital in La Piedad for treatment and monitoring.
His on-field career was tied to the right-back position. He played for Pachuca before joining América in 2011, where he stayed until 2020 and had the most celebrated period of his career. He later wore the FC Juárez jersey, his last professional team.
He played for the Mexico national team in the World Cups in South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014. After retiring from professional soccer, he remained involved in the sport as a commentator and analyst. No date has been confirmed for his hospital discharge or return to those activities.
