Obed Vargas made his Champions League debut with Atlético de Madrid this 20 in October, during the 1-1 away draw against Stuttgart. The Mexican midfielder came off the bench late in the match, which was part of the third round of the league phase.

His first appearance came with the score already level and Atlético down to ten men after Morten Hjulmand was sent off. Vargas thus made his first appearance in the European tournament in the closing stages, which Diego Simeone’s team played with ten men.

Stuttgart had taken the lead in the 36 minute through Jamie Leweling. The German side went into halftime ahead, but Atlético responded just after the start of the second half: Julián Álvarez scored in the 47 minute to make it 1-1.

Hjulmand was sent off after the equalizer, and the Mexican came on later. Neither team scored again: Atlético salvaged a point in Germany after falling behind and finished the match with a player down.
