The road to the centennial of college football in Mexico will include a musical celebration: NFL Mexico and UNAM announced an OFUNAM performance for Saturday, October 24. The venue will be Sala Nezahualcóyotl in Mexico City, with tickets starting at 100 pesos and a TV broadcast scheduled for the following day.
The in-person event will begin at 20:00, Mexico City time. Tickets can be purchased at the venue’s box office, located in the University Cultural Center, or through the Música UNAM website. The usual discounts for the university community and people affiliated with INAPAM will be available.
A program spanning Mozart and sports competition
Music will be conducted by Enrique Diemecke, a guest for this performance, with Jorge Federico Osorio as piano soloist. The performance is part of the OFUNAM’s Third Season 2026 and will combine two works by Mozart with compositions by Enrico Chapela and Diemecke himself.
The program will open with the Overture to The Magic Flute and Piano Concerto number 21. Next will be Ínguesu, by Chapela, which draws inspiration from the intensity of a sports competition. The piece chosen to conclude the evening is Die Sir E, written by Diemecke.
The event brings together several anniversaries: the orchestra is celebrating nine decades, and its home venue is marking half a century. In sports, the celebration looks ahead to one hundred years of college football in the country, whose history dates back to 1927.
For Arturo Olivé, who heads NFL Mexico, the collaboration aims to bring together audiences from different generations through sports and culture. The program is intended both for football fans and for those who enjoy the symphonic repertoire.
There will also be an option to watch from home: the national broadcast on TV UNAM is scheduled for 12:00 on Sunday, October 25, Mexico City time. The broadcast is scheduled for the day after the performance at the venue.
