Ten men’s Liga MX clubs still need youth minutes in the Apertura 2026. Monterrey has the biggest shortfall at 701, followed by Querétaro on 554 and Santos Laguna on 525. Cruz Azul still needs 386, while Chivas and Atlas now join the eight clubs that have met the requirement. This separate race can affect the playoffs: failing to comply at the deadline carries a points penalty.

Data cutoff: official league table checked on October 18, 2026 at 5:33 p.m. Mexico City time. Matchday 12 is not over: Monterrey–Pachuca is still to be played. These are the minutes registered by the league at that point, not a projection or the final season assessment.

How many minutes does each club still need?

The target is 1,170 credited minutes. The table ranks clubs by their remaining shortfall, from largest to smallest. Owing minutes in October does not mean a club has already been penalized: there is still time to meet the requirement during the regular season.

Youth minutes still required by club
Club Credited Still needed
Monterrey 469 701
Querétaro 616 554
Santos Laguna 645 525
FC Juárez 666 504
Tigres 706 464
Puebla 709 461
Cruz Azul 784 386
León 882 288
Toluca 918 252
Atlético de San Luis 1,047 123

The eight clubs that have already complied

Tijuana, 1,885; Atlante, 1,760; América, 1,665; Necaxa, 1,549; Pumas, 1,283; Atlas, 1,244; Pachuca, 1,192; Chivas, 1,173. Chivas cleared the target by just three minutes, which is enough. Going further above the requirement does not earn additional points in the league standings.

Cruz Azul made progress; Monterrey needs more room

Cruz Azul moved from 665 to 784 minutes after facing Juárez. That 119-minute gain reduced its shortfall from 505 to 386, and the latest total is already in the official register. It is tangible progress, but the remaining fixtures still need to include eligible young players.

Monterrey’s situation needs a different reading. Its 469 credited minutes were recorded before Sunday’s game against Pachuca, so this snapshot must not be treated as though every club had completed Matchday 12. Nevertheless, the 701-minute gap shows why a handful of late substitute appearances would not be enough.

With a 225-minute maximum per club per match, a 701-minute shortfall takes at least four matches to cover through playing time. That calculation uses the present balance and does not anticipate any national-team credits. Cruz Azul needs at least two games to cover 386; San Luis could clear its 123 in one if it produces enough eligible minutes. These are mathematical minimums, not predictions.

Which minutes count?

The rule covers players trained in Mexico who were born in 2004 or later. The label does not mean only players under 18. The official table credits the eligible age groups at 100%, subject to the collective match cap.

That is why the credited-minutes column matters. Toluca has 954 raw minutes but 918 that count toward the rule, leaving 252. Juárez has 690 raw minutes and 666 credited, so it still needs 504. Subtracting the raw total would give the wrong answer.

For example, three eligible players each completing 90 minutes would generate 270 minutes on the pitch, but the club could count only 225 from that match. Opportunities have to be spread across fixtures rather than packed into one game.

The penalties: three points and training funds

Article 49 of the 2026–27 competition regulations sets two penalties for missing the minimum: a three-point deduction in the overall and coefficient standings, and a 15% reduction in funds distributed for training rights. This is not a fixed fine in pesos or a charge for each missing minute.

The requirement applies to the regular season. A deduction could alter playoff qualification or seeding. As an illustration, a club finishing with 27 points would drop to 24 if penalized; its eventual position would depend on the other results. None of the ten clubs is being docked points in this article’s current standings.

National-team call-ups can also generate credits under specific regulatory conditions. Estimated call-up minutes should not be added to this table independently. League position and youth-rule compliance need to be considered together as the regular season approaches its finish.
