ASUS announced the availability of the ROG Xbox Ally X20, a revision of its handheld gaming PC that features a larger OLED screen and control adjustments. The main change is in the user experience: it keeps the previous Ally X’s processor instead of introducing a new generation of hardware.
This ROG 20-anniversary edition features a 7.4-inch touchscreen, compared with the previous model’s seven-inch display. It retains the 1920 × 1080 resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate, with a variable refresh range from 30 to 120 Hz. The screen replaces the Ally X’s IPS panel.
Inside, it still has the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, 24 GB of RAM, and a 1 TB SSD. The 80 Wh battery is also unchanged. This is an update focused on the screen, controls, and finish, not a processor upgrade.
The controls get TMR magnetic joysticks, a D-pad with a mechanism for switching between four and eight directions, and grips with a nonslip rubber surface. The body has a semitransparent black-and-gold finish; it also increases in weight from 715 to 756 grams and grows approximately one centimeter wider.
The software retains the option to access games from different stores through the Xbox interface or go directly to Windows. The X20 thus maintains the Ally family’s handheld PC concept, now with an update focused mainly on how it looks and feels to hold while gaming.
