Efraín Juárez said leaving Pumas was his own decision, even though the club’s board proposed that he continue after the Clausura 2026 final. The Mexican coach, now in charge of Hungary’s Győri ETO, explained that he wanted to test himself in another country and that the club had not decided to end his tenure.
In an interview, Juárez said he spoke directly with club president Luis Raúl González while considering leaving. According to him, the club’s leadership tried to persuade him to keep the project going, but he said he needed time and wanted a different experience.
The coach explained that part of his motivation was to work in a country where his language was not spoken. He also expressed gratitude to the executives who brought him to Pumas, the team he reached the final with before making the move to Hungarian soccer.
