Caifanes, Ely Guerra and other musicians will take part in Concierto por un Abrazo next November 18 at Teatro Metropólitan in Mexico City. The performance aims to raise funds for the Zapatista Army of National Liberation’s (EZLN) Gira por la Vida and support its delegation’s meeting with mothers and families searching for missing people.
Admission will require a ticket: sales will begin Friday, October 23, through Ticketmaster. Prices have not yet been announced, so those planning to attend will have to wait for the prices to be published to find out how much a ticket will cost.
Who will be there and when it will take place
In addition to Caifanes and Ely Guerra, the lineup includes Vivir Quintana, Kevin Kaarl, Meme del Real and jaranero musicians. The performance is scheduled for Wednesday, November 18, at 20:30 at the venue in the city center.
The call brings these artists together in a single solidarity initiative: the stated purpose is to contribute to the organization and transportation needed for the meeting between the Zapatista movement and search collectives, not just to offer a musical performance.
What the fundraising will support
The concert is part of the support network for Gira por la Vida, a mobilization through which the EZLN plans to come to Mexico City to meet with mothers searching for missing people and relatives of missing people. The organization describes the meeting as a space to accompany them and listen to their demands for truth and justice.
Thus, buying tickets is the announced way to contribute to this effort. The charitable purpose does not mean admission is free: tickets will be sold for the concert, and the proceeds will go toward supporting the organization of the meeting.
