Raúl ‘Potro’ Gutiérrez’s future as head coach of Cruz Azul Femenil is reportedly under review by management following his participation in the tribute marking América’s 110 years. Reports of the review do not confirm a dismissal, but cast doubt on his continued tenure at the helm of the Celestes.
The coach attended the recognition ceremony for his career as a player with the América team. His presence at the celebration while coaching the women’s team of one of its rivals prompted questions and led him to issue a public apology.
In his message, Gutiérrez acknowledged that he had not gauged the impact of attending the tribute and expressed regret to Cruz Azul’s fans and institution. He also pledged to take greater responsibility for representing his position at similar events.
The reported review includes the possibility of Lupita Worbis taking charge of the team. For now, that possibility does not amount to an appointment: neither a potential coaching change nor Gutiérrez’s departure has been presented as a confirmed decision.
