Pokémon Pokopia is celebrating Halloween with Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist. The Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises event began on October 17 and runs until November 1, 2026, at 4:59 a.m. local time. It combines tricks, candy and decorations with a lasting reward: Pokémon you befriend will stay in town after the celebration ends.
This is not a battle challenge or simply a random encounter to chase. It uses Pokopia’s building and transformation mechanics: meet Pumpkaboo, collect exchange items and prepare a habitat that can attract Gourgeist.
The requirements to check first
Nintendo’s current instructions call for version 2.0.1, completion of a town’s important request, a rebuilt Pokémon Center and the Camouflage move learned from Zorua in Bleak Beach. An internet connection is also required the first time you participate.
Your Nintendo Switch 2 date and time should match the real-world date and time within the event period. The deadline is expressed in local time, rather than as a single Japanese timestamp that every player must convert. Check the console’s time settings if you travel between time zones.
From the first surprise to Gourgeist’s habitat
Find Pumpkaboo near a rebuilt Pokémon Center and listen to its request. Then use Camouflage to become objects that other Pokémon like and surprise them as they approach. This earns pumpkin candy, the temporary exchange item used during the celebration.
Take the candy to the Pokémon Center for event furniture and decorations. Those items do more than change a town’s appearance: they can help create a habitat for Gourgeist. Choosing pieces for that habitat serves a different purpose from spending everything on whichever decorations look appealing first.
The practical goal is to progress from meeting Pumpkaboo to preparing a place that attracts its Evolution. Understanding that sequence is more useful than treating the event as a shopping list. Collect candy, exchange it and give the resulting items a purpose in your build.
If the event does not appear
Nintendo says the activity does not take place on Cloud Islands or in Bubbly Basin. If you meet the requirements during the event but do not see it begin, the guide recommends moving to another town or choosing Save & Quit. The software version and initial internet connection are also worth checking.
The limited part is the opportunity to take part in this celebration. Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist do not leave after the deadline if you have already befriended them. That makes completing the habitat the meaningful objective before the event closes, rather than worrying that the Pokémon earned during it will vanish afterward.
For returning players, the event offers a specific reason to revisit town: a seasonal construction goal whose Pokémon reward outlasts Halloween.
