Jack Pepper is now a playable character in Super Meat Boy 3D. The MOUSE: P.I. for Hire detective arrived in the October 19 update, alongside technical improvements. The patch is free for owners of the game; it does not make the full game a free download.
The collaboration brings MOUSE’s black-and-white cartoon identity into Meat Boy’s three-dimensional world. The official trailer presents a compact version of Pepper, complete with his detective hat, adapted to the platformer’s visual style.
What the update changes
The official notes identify four additions: Jack Pepper, DLSS and FSR support, controller vibration and various fixes. That announcement does not describe a separate campaign, a collection of Pepper-specific levels or exclusive abilities that should be assumed to exist.
The technical changes deserve attention beyond the crossover. In a precision platformer, consistent presentation and responsive controls matter alongside character design. Additional graphics options give players more ways to configure the experience, but their presence does not establish identical performance on every computer.
The announcement does not specify DLSS or FSR versions or provide a frame-rate comparison. It would therefore be premature to promise a particular speed increase or to claim specific frame-generation features based only on those names.
A crossover rather than a different game
Super Meat Boy 3D moves the series’ jumping, obstacles and repeated attempts into three-dimensional environments. Pepper provides a distinctive guest identity, while the underlying attraction remains the platforming challenge. The update is not a full transfer of MOUSE’s detective work and gunplay into Meat Boy.
The companies also introduced the Meat For Hire bundle containing both games. That commercial bundle is separate from the update: buying a collection of titles and downloading a patch for a game you already own are different transactions.
Where to play
Super Meat Boy 3D is available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch 2. Existing players should update their copy through the relevant platform’s library. Bundle prices and promotions can vary by storefront and region.
For current players, the appeal is returning to familiar challenges with a recognizable guest while exploring the patch’s settings. For newcomers, the more useful decision is whether demanding platforming sounds appealing, rather than whether a character from another franchise appears in the roster. The crossover adds a reason to look again without changing that basic choice.
