The HomePod mini 2 announced on October 13 has an official Mexican price of MXN 2,999. Its international rollout starts October 30, but Apple’s Mexican page still asks customers to check availability later. A local price does not confirm delivery on that date.
The update adds the S10 chip and Sound Glow, lighting on the top that reacts to music. It also supports a four-speaker surround configuration with the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K and can become the default speaker for a compatible Mac. Those uses matter more than choosing a new color.
Brief review: decide where it would live
Our initial assessment favors someone who wants a discreet speaker for a desk or bedroom and already uses Apple devices. The argument is not to buy more power for its own sake. It is to simplify something repeated every day: listening while working, moving audio from a phone or having a room ready without turning on several devices.
For a satisfied owner of the original HomePod mini, we do not see an automatic reason to replace it. Identify which new function you would actually use before spending. Upgrading for appearance can be a valid personal choice, but it does not demonstrate better sound. Voices, bass and high-volume playback still need to be heard under comparable conditions before we can make that judgment.
The actual cost of a bigger system
Two units cost MXN 5,998. Starting from scratch, four HomePod mini 2 speakers plus the new MXN 6,299 Apple TV total MXN 18,295, excluding a television and services. That makes it worth comparing complete audio systems, rather than the price of one small speaker.
Surround playback requires compatible models with matching front and rear pairs. For Mac speaker use, Apple specifies computers with Wi-Fi 6E or later. Checking those requirements prevents buying a device that cannot fit into the setup as expected.
Siri AI is not yet a reason to buy
Apple’s US documentation says Siri AI will arrive in a future update. We are not treating it as a feature already available in Mexico. Our provisional verdict: interesting as part of a system you will genuinely use, less compelling as an impulsive replacement for a speaker that already does its job. Sound quality and daily responsiveness will determine whether the upgrade earns its place.
