América and Monterrey drew 1-1 at Estadio Azteca in Matchday 11 of the Apertura 2026. Diego Rossi put Rayados ahead, and Santiago Bueno equalized for the Águilas in first-half stoppage time. The Uruguayan center back started and finished as the scorer of América’s goal in the match held as part of the club’s 110th anniversary celebrations.
A corner kick and a second chance
The equalizer came at 45+3. Henry Martín shot at the near post after a corner kick, but Esteban Andrada managed to save the ball. Bueno pounced on the rebound inside the box and sent it into the net, restoring América’s tie before halftime.
Rayados had taken the lead with a volley by Rossi. América’s response came from a set piece: the delivery first found Henry, and the goalkeeper’s save left a second chance for the defender. Bueno finished off that continuation of the play; his goal was not a direct shot from the corner kick.
Bueno’s Liga MX debut
The goal came in Bueno’s first official appearance in Liga MX for América. His first outing in the blue-and-cream shirt had come earlier: he got minutes in the friendly against Cruz Azul on October 3, which ended 0-0. The match against Monterrey was therefore his debut in the domestic tournament, following that preseason appearance.
Bueno is part of the defensive overhaul led by Guillermo Almada for this Apertura, along with Santiago Ramos Mingo. Against Rayados, the Uruguayan also made his mark in the opposition’s box: he scored his first goal for the Águilas and made it 1-1, as stated in América’s official match recap.
